The summer may be drawing to a close, but things have been anything but quiet behind the scenes at TechSoc! Your committee has been busy putting together an exciting programme of lectures, presentations and site visits for the 2026/27 season, with another year packed full of fascinating topics from across the world of transport, rail and engineering.
We’re delighted to announce that the new season gets underway on September 17th, with a presentation on the North Hyde Substation Review delivered by John Zammit-Haber, who will share insights on an incident that ultimately resulted in the closure of Heathrow Airport and raised a number of important questions around resilience, interfaces and the design of critical infrastructure.
And that’s just the beginning…
What to Expect
We’ve got an exciting range of presentations lined up throughout the year, showcasing projects, technologies and challenges from across the UK and internationally. Topics currently on the programme include:
- Woolwich Ferry developments
- Helsinki Metro signalling upgrade
- Insight into Systems Integration in Canada
- Four Lines Modernisation (4LM)
- …and plenty more to be announced!
As always, our programme aims to bring together practical experience, technical insight and lively discussion, covering the issues that are shaping the future of transport and railway engineering.
Whether you’re a long-standing TechSoc member, a regular attendee, or someone who has never joined us before, everyone is welcome. Lectures are available both in person and online, so there’s no excuse to miss out! Check out our website for the latest updates on upcoming talks, visits and more: https://techsoc.org.uk/
